12:18 am - Simchat Honk

Hmmm honk fest is the same weekend as Simchat torah...  I feel like there must be some way to have that lunacy as part of the tbs hakkafot ... but I can't really figure it out... (at least without violating yomtov)

07:48 am - TBS Sukkah Building Help

So I'm officially out of the picture for helping with sukkah building at TBS this year.  I'm going to be in Salt Lake City Utah Tuesday - Thursday  so if you can pitch in for an hour or two next Tuesday night or Wends night, I'm sure it will be greatly appreciated.

12:09 am - noise rant

My bed room sits underneath the exhaust system for the downstairs restaurant. There's always been a hum from it but 10 months ago they decide to replace the roof. I had thought for my $2400 assessment the place would get quieter instead, the vibrations have gotten much worse.

The equipment goes on between 7-8 am, and off between 11-12 pm. Occasionally it hits a resonant frequency with the window springs or my dishes or the racks in the microwave and they make some noise. The rest of the time I effectively have a ceiling that's been turned into a large subwoofer. I can't hear the noise since it's so low freq, but I can feel it.
A friend recently lent me a sound meter and it measured large sections of my bedroom at >88 db(c) Which is like a diesel truck going by 12 hrs a day. 85 db is an osha limit in the work place, greater then that you're supposed to have ear protection.
Last week I presented these numbers to the management Co, not really sure if they are responsible for the machinery or the restaurant. I'm waiting to hear back... and trying to figure out if I should approach the restaurant directly, should I threaten to go to the city.. should I just go to the city. They might be far outside the allowable noise amounts. I don't particularly like picking a fight, but 20% of my home is unpleasant to be in 16 hours of the day.

08:00 pm - Shavuot help

Here for shavuot? I'm looking for some folks to shop and cook for the tikkun, the tikkun is thursday night, hoping to cook Wednesday night and thursday, candle lighting is about 8 so there's probably room for folks that don't work 9-5 and a post work shift.  Which means probably shopping monday and tues nights.
I think Lee is trying to get an early morning head count, and we're looking for potential teachers.
thx

After a day in London, I'm now in Drammen, There's sunlight, it's just low on the horizon. it's warmer here then in boston, I'm as far north as Juno, but it's warmer then the northeast! The snow boots were definitely overkill.

08:05 am - hoop jumping

I've successfully slogged through the itunes connect system and gotten my app into the apples testing queue, and then filled out all the paperwork for selling stuff. Sadly discovered that "iPlasma" was taken, not to mention "plasma ball". Sadly I realized the iPlasma part after I had paid to dns iPlasma.gedalia.net. so I went with my original name ibeams, and now have ibeams.gedalia.net. Apple requires a web page for the app. I think I'm going to need a video of the thing working next.

10:54 pm - Google earth's new buildings are cool,

But they might need to really invest in deshadowing tech and then creating shadows from the buildings. The number of disconcerting shadow cues actually made my head spin.

10:12 am - About that living above a resturant thing

So for the 3rd time in a year ECG had a fire. This was the worst of the bunch.
#1 I wasn't home for and I didn't hear anything about it till they sent condo members a letter apologizing about it. It was a grease fire in the kitchen.
#2 was 1-2 months ago on a Saturday night, the fire alarm went off, I woke up looked around, sniffed, put on a pair of pants just in case and crawled back in bed. I'm not crazy, there's been a series of middle of the night false alarms over the last 2 years. A couple of min later the FD rang the bell and I spent the next 2 hrs standing outside while they put out a dryer fire and cleared the ECG of smoke.
#3 last night, no fire alarms, I awoke to yelling and banging and smoke in the apt. The FD was banging and ringing the bell. It was another grease fire, but obviously quite a bit worse then the last one. it was 2:30 am. Figuring after the last experiance I wouldn't be getting back into my place and that I was under dressed for 35 degree weather. I wound up walking over to a friend who I have a spare key to their place and sleeping on their couch.
I just don't understand why anyone needs to cook at 2:30 in the morning! Jesus. Loosing all my stuff if my place burns down while I'm at work is one thing, but I don't want to be personally grilled by the grill.
